Taylor Jenkins Reid is headed to space for her next novel.

Ballantine will publish the author’s Atmosphere: A Love Story next year, the press announced in a news release, calling the book “an epic novel set against the backdrop of the 1980s space shuttle program and the extraordinary lengths we go to live and love beyond our limits.”

Reid published the novels Forever, Interrupted; After I Do; and Maybe in Another Life before scoring a breakout hit in 2017 with The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. She had another bestseller in 2019 with Daisy Jones & the Six, which was adapted for an Amazon Prime miniseries.

According to a post on Reid’s Instagram account, Atmosphere will follow Joan Goodwin, a physics and astronomy professor at Rice University in Houston who begins training as a NASA astronaut and becomes friends with her colleagues.

“Fast-paced, thrilling, and emotional, Atmosphere is Taylor Jenkins Reid at her best: transporting readers to iconic times and places, with complex protagonists, telling a passionate and soaring story about the transformative power of love, this time among the stars,” Ballantine says.

“I am so excited to be able to share the details about my new book, Atmosphere,” Reid said in a statement. “I have long wanted to tell a sweeping, romantic love story, and when the character of astronomer Joan Goodwin came to me, I knew I had found my way in.”

Atmosphere is slated for publication on June 3, 2025.
