Prince Harry’s Spare will be released in paperback this fall, Random House announced in a news release.
Harry’s memoir, published in January of 2023, is the U.K. royal’s account of his life growing up as the son of King Charles III and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, who died in a car crash in 1997.
The book was an instant hit, selling more than 6 million copies. It has been certified by Guinness World Records as the fastest-selling work of nonfiction in history. A critic for Kirkus called it “a harrowing, sporadically self-serving account of life in and away from the British monarchy.”
The memoir is said to have strained the already tense relationship between Harry and his older brother, Prince William. In the book, Harry claims that his brother physically attacked him during an argument over Harry’s wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, better known in the U.S. as actor Meghan Markle.
Random House says, “The new edition will have the same cover image as the hardcover edition, a newly designed package and the contents of the book are unchanged.”
As People magazine’s Janine Henni notes, “The decision not to include anything new is widely being viewed as a step towards reconciliation with the royal family.”
The paperback edition of Spare is scheduled for publication on Oct. 22.
