Giles Milton’s Churchill’s Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler’s Defeat is headed to the small screen as a drama series, Deadline reports.

Milton’s nonfiction book, published by Picador in 2017, follows six men working for the British War Office in World War II, who were known for leading a series of remarkable operations against Nazi Germany. A critic for Kirkus called the book “an elegant presentation of Winston Churchill’s special guerrilla operations force” and “an exciting, suspenseful tale of international intrigue.”

Rights to Milton’s book were obtained by producers Kit Golden (Chocolat), Thomas J. Mangan IV (Tumbleweeds), and Mark Hollinger. Clive Bradley (Single-Handed, Trapped) will write the screenplay for the series.

“I’m absolutely delighted that Clive Bradley and this team of talented producers will be developing The Ministry into a TV series,” Milton told Deadline. “Clive brings a wealth of award-winning talent and is sure to breathe life into the extraordinary characters who stride through the pages of the book.”

Hollinger also had kind words for Bradley, saying, “He’s an avid student of history and his work has always shown a great talent for weaving complex story lines together to pack a big punch.”
