This is a good addition to the series of lives of musicians, done for younger children. Bach, Schubert, Haydn and Mozart have been covered. Now comes the first American musician. A simple story, told with sympathy and affection, and reflecting the quality of the man and his work. Personally, I dislike the Mary Greenwalt illustrations, but that does not deflect from my appreciation of the text.
