It goes through the centuries summarizing mechanical achievements, some immediately familiar, some obscure- but important, and concludes with a discussion of the mechanical problems facing man in the space age. Though brief, the explanations of the various inventions discussed are clear and given in context of the period and the need which led to their evolution. A routine, but informative text of a purely digest nature.
