ESCAPE TO THE TROPICS

There's good substance here, but it doesn't quite coagulate. Possibly Deamond Holdridge needs a little stern editorial supervision to tighten up his breezy conversational style and sort out his salient points from the inconsequential ones. Rather scrappy account of experience of young couple who spend a season on St. John, cruise to some of other Caribbean islands, and go into interior of South America following possible clues to lost flyer, Redfern. As it stands, he just doesn't catch and hold the interest (and this from a reader prejudiced in favor of anything dealing with the Caribbean islands). It isn't quite a travel book -- it isn't quite adventure -- it isn't quite a how-to-do-likewise and live on an island in the tropic seas. It's A little of each. And it has its entertaining moments.
