This book was originally planned for High School level, and as such has a unique function. So far as I know, this is the first approach of its kind to problems of minorities, of racial discrimination, of intolerance, based on case histories, many of them closely aligned with adolescent problems. Dr. Baruch's approach touches both intellect and emotions; she cuts to the heart of the matter- its effect on the citizens of tomorrow. She has used Southern California as a testing ground embracing every aspect, -- Negroes, brought there by call of patriotism and finding no welcome; Mexicans, labelled as troublemakers, used as scapegoats; Orientals. She has shown how the problems are rooted in conditions we must face, insecurities, false attitudes, ignorance. Nor approach is psychological -- and constructive. Much of the material was used in assembly hour discussion groups, and created lively interest among High School students.
