MANAGEMENT OF THE MIND

A substantial explanation and demonstration of the program and principles which have been used as a therapeutic technique for alcoholics at Bridge House, which is operated by the City of New York. The help- or rather self-help -- here has been successful in two thirds of the cases treated, and is based on the individual's ability to mobilize the resources of his mind and thereby conquer the compulsion to drink (other excessive behavior patterns can be eliminated too). His theory- ""we are what we make ourselves"" is developed through 17 principles, obviates certain evasions and deceptions, nostalgia and remorse, insists on total abstinence, and stresses the importance of faith. His regimen of exercises in mental discipline amplify and fortify the theory.... A book for those who need help of this kind, and those who work with them-social workers, clergy, etc.
