The Hubbles are 12-year-old Alaric and his 8-year-old sister, Sarah, who live with their eccentric grandfather next to the cathedral close at Stoweminster. Alaric discovered a book of ancient spells and, with Sarah's help, he turned himself into a cat. When Jonathan, Charlotte and Peter Vaughan arrived for a visit, Alaric padded through one contrivance after another as Alaric plays wizard. Even a couple of caricatured adults go to him for his services. An overbusy, overpopulated plot with efforts at broad humor which never quite come off.
