Earth's story from its days as an offshoot of the sun is given rather standard treatment here, occasionally marred by unqualified generalizations. Prefacing her chronology with a look at the universe and early mythological thinking, the author goes on to enumerate theories of origin, and describe earth's early geological development. Further chapters on each of the main stages of life bring the account through the new stone age and up to the present. Half truths like ""people"" (not the Romans) named Mars after the god of war, or that earth has a ""comfortable"" heat for us (only implying lifelessness elsewhere) mislead, but for a light survey, this is adequate.
