An arresting book -- the saga of the Rushbrooke family, with the spirit of the dominant old man in the background, adroitly handled, since he never appears in person on the stage across which pass a gallery of vivid personalities, his two families and their families. The story lies in the interplay of characters, rather than in actual incident. There is a suggestion of Galsworthy in the theme; something, perhaps, of the JALNA motive; but the handling is original and modern, brilliant at times, interesting always. Don't miss it.
