All who have loved it from many years back will welcome Lassie Come-Home, the story of a courageous, pertinacious and steadfast collie, against a Yorkshire setting. Lassie was the best dog in the Riding and coveted by the wealthy Duke who lived nearby. But not until he had been on the dole for months did his collier owner reluctantly part with him. Lassie would have none of this change of residence; she ran away daily to call for Joe at school, and when she was taken four hundred miles to a Scottish estate, she came home, an amazing odyssey over land and water. Knight knows Yorkshire and its people, and has moderated his dialect more than in his adult stories. Ran as a short story in the Saturday Evening Post. The Marguerite Kirmse illustrations give it added appeal, and it should have an adult as well as juvenile sale.
