First and last this is a first rate story for girls, good from any angle, and can be sold as a boarding school story in a new vein. Next, it is utterly new a story of Negro girl, brought up in the Middle West, where differentiation is less marked, and thrust, with little preparation, into the sharp distinctions of the South, when she visits her great great grandmother, and goes to a colored boarding school, on one of the sea islands off the coast of South Carolina. The experience matured her and gave her not only a new set of values, but a realization of social responsibility for her people. Extremely well done.
