by George Laycock ‧ RELEASE DATE: May 12, 1975
Unlike the undernourished Camels (see above) Squirrels is jam-packed with casual talk about our common gray squirrel and his cousins--the red, fox and flying squirrels, the rare tassel-eared varieties, the chipmunk and woodchuck. Laycock's own backyard observations, anecdotes about squirrel hitchhikers and another one that waits for the green light before crossing the street, even choice bits from John Burroughs' Riverby fill out the rambling essay with basic facts buried like acorns throughout; not a tight, systematic presentation but an easygoing roundup for squirrel watchers.
