IRON, BLOOD AND PROFITS

Here's a book that to some extent parallels MERCHANTS OF DEATH, but that goes farther still. A source book for all other books on the subject, thoroughly documented, containing extensive quotations from primary sources, the records of the firms involved, state papers, contemporary journals, and so on. It presents an even stronger case; it involves the Bloody International yet more deeply in the responsibility for war, past, present and to come. The human side is less popularly presented, which may make it tougher reading for the casual reader, but it is there, none the less. The racket in armaments, the stranglehold on the press, the patriotic societies, propaganda for enlarged armaments, preparedness and the like -- all feeding the pockets of the few great industries, concerned with munitions, in any way, shape or form. The two books can be sold together, to those who want the complete picture. Seldes' name carries more to the average reader, perhaps. One or the other is essential reading for the intelligent man -- or woman -- who wants to be informed on conditions today.
