This is a sketch book of several interesting Ohioans, among them Woodrow Wilson, Philip Sheridan, U.S. Grant, Harding, James Garfield, Paul Laurence Dunbar, Marshall Field, Thomas Edison, among other less known if no less deserving citizens. The biographies are apt to be minimal, favor the women characters, and are chronologically chaotic; yet they do introduce some new information gathered painstakingly both from books and from surviving friends and relatives of the subjects. The author is a longstanding columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and one can assume that she has a readymade readership even though it may not extend much beyond state lines.
