THE UNBREAKABLE MR. DOLL

Light fiction looking up, with good pace and likeable characters slightly more rounded than one would expect. The story of crude, candid, soft-hearted Glory Doll, who loves two men all her life, is really an appealing character. Beautiful, incredibly rich, she started life as a waif, was adopted by a man hiding from justice, and at sixteen marries her foster father's son who has a flare for spotting oil. They love each other -- but an engineer steps in to form a triangle, and life goes on. Travel -- frustration -- death -- and a sustaining loyalty. Not run of the mill. Rental library market.
