A of fjords and festivals from Kristiansand to Kirkenes with superb photographs (many in color) and an accent on the modern--the traditional seter now has its own road, and (unless it has been modernized as a holiday home for city people) ""there is a daily milk collection with the cheese made centrally in dairies."" This is not organized for school assignments since fishing is not Industry but hydroelectric power is, and physical geography is mentioned in such diverse sections as Country, Railways, Farming and in connection with each of three cities--Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim. Skiing and Winter Sports have one section while boating appears in Ships and Shipping, and the Festivals section is one of several discussing foods. There's a walk through the mountains with a family, and a suburban Oslo school represents Norwegian education, also as it affects a family. The index is for those who have read the book and the maps are on the end papers, but the photographs are alluring and the text is straightforward. Better for looking at than looking into.
