BRONCO CHARLIE

The author of the excellent Mountain Pony series, tells a lively yarn based on the true adventures of Bronco Charlie Miller, the last living rider of the Pony Express. Perhaps it was the reputation earned bronco busting at a tender age which influenced Charlie's father to allow his to substitute at the age of eleven for a Pony Express rider. The first ride from Sacramento to Placerville, a distance of fifty miles, is full of storms and narrow escapes, but the mail and Bronco Charlie arrive safely, and Charlie is installed as a permanent rider on the Pony Express. All the appeal of a chap-slapping Western yarn, and a few grains of salt add spice.
