From his early colt days, Blitz, a beautiful bay horse, knew love and kindness. This tradition was continued with his new owner, the fire chief of Drumlin, who trained him to be an expert fire horse. A dreadful accident interrupts Blitz's career and renders him useful for light work only, while technologically replacing him with a motorized fire engine as well. With junk dealer Joe Botts, Blitz encounters harsh treatment for the first time in his life, and when it appears he has been worked almost to his death, he is miraculously redeemed by kindly Dave Burns. Physical care coupled with love returns the animal to his former self and enables him to accomplish an amazing feat as he leads Dr. Burns through a blinding blizzard to save a child's life. The horse remains a real horse in a familiar plot which will nevertheless interest young animal enthusiasts.
