Timothy Dunton's father was an itinerant New England painter in the early 1800's, and a chance meeting with the celebrated Gilbert Stuart in a Connecticut inn brought about changes in the life of young Timothy and his little sister, Amanda. Not actually the story of how Timothy became an artist, but there's the firing of the creative urge which may well spur readers to a recognition of some spark in themselves. It is a simply told story, but moves along with good pace and is absorbing reading, though in retrospect the story seems slight. The children are real enough, but one could wish for more of the feel of life in early Connecticut and New York.
