STAR OF INDIA

Action- plot- and excellent feeling of Indian background -- for a new and well-sustained story by an author who has established herself in this field. This is the tale of the adventures of a ten-year-old Indian girl who helps her father, Kundan Lal, recover his stolen medal, the jewelled Star of India, a family heirloom given the grandfather by the Rids of Kunwar for service to his village. The envious Rais refused to return the Star which he has insisted on as collateral, though the debt has been paid. He tries to have Kundan murdered but a friendly physician blocks the scheme, bringing Kundan back to consciousness. Meantime the young daughter has gone alone to steal the Star. Text uncluttered by non-essentials- and a holding plot.
