THE AMAZING LAND OF WEW

A flat fairy tale takes a Texan boy through a series of predictable adventures in a land straight out of Arabian Nights, or perhaps the Oz books or The Hobbit- with a little of the author's own notions of the fantastic thrown in. One day Joen and his dog Bill and his lamb Nana find a mysterious cave. Entering, they fall to great depths, meet a jewelled man- and the rest is routine. Bill and Nana can suddenly talk, there's a curse on the Jewelled Man cast by a wicked magician and as all of them proceed to adventures with a full cast of kingdoms and characters. The powers of darkness are vanquished at last and Joen is transported back to Texas. A perenially favorite kind of story, this is nevertheless unexcitingly written and lacks the grace and originality of style needed to put it over.
