BOOT WEATHER

When Dad comes in from shoveling snow, Kim borrows his boots for a game of make-believe in the playground outdoors: in small, framed pictures on left-hand pages, she is shown ascending a slide, jumping over a rock, crawling through a piece of pipe, or sliding on a patch of ice; meanwhile, the corresponding right-hand pages depict her imaginary exploits--ascending a cliff, hovering in a space suit over the moon, spelunking to find treasure, or being a hockey star. ""In boot weather Kim can go anywhere at all. . .and still be home for lunch."" Vigna's lightly sketched illustrations are washed in delicate, attractive colors that nicely suggest both the winter landscape and the world of the imagination. Slight but pleasant.
