THE GRAND DUKE AND MR. PIMM

A light-fingered bit, this has to do with the machinations of Timothy Pimm, a most elegant but (almost) invisible marriage broker, who keeps American Julian Soames in hot water with his plans to impose the proper husband upon Madcap Mehaffey, a wealthy, unpredictable and attractive piece. The Riviera, its villas, roads and coast background a romp through a planned kidnaping, a real snatch upon which Pimm and Co. had not counted, Julian (who was not scheduled to get Madcap) and Peggy's bickering, and the eventual triumph of Madcap's Aunt Matilda over the ubiquitous Mr. Pimm and his long to short range plotting. No mark to leave on the literary world here, but plenty of clean cutting up in a literate manner. Fun.
