THE LITTLE BOOK OF BELLS

This little book rings in with St. Patrick's Clog-en-eadhacta and out with Philadelphia's Liberty Bell. In between there are jottings about the ways of bells and bell players. Bells are tuned; there are change ringing bells as at Kent and Groton Schools or carillons (from the Dunkerque carillon of 1437 to the Van Bergen Kaas-Rowe Carillon--modern and electronic). At one time there were nine bell foundries in the United States; now there are only two, but the most famous bellmaker of all is Paul Revere, with thirty seven bells listed to his credit at the close of the book. Legends and inscriptions are also included. Illustrations not seen here. A-peal-ing if inconsequential.
