JUST ME

For a very young child this book is just right. A little boy, walking around a farm and the outlying woods, explains on each page his imitation of a different animal. Of course he can't fly like a bird, but he can walk like a cat or a rooster, take a bath- and- nap like a pig, hop like a rabbit, wriggle like a snake, and so on, and in the end he can just be himself going for a ride in his father's motor boat. There is just enough variation in the boy's reactions to the different animals to alleviate the repetition. The woodblock prints have a nice, simple rustic quality, and are very explicit on how each animal can be imitated (as they undoubtedly will be).
