City bred Randy is reluctantly introduced to the wonders of nature by his country cousin Jimmy who eventually concerts him to country living. Having built Hidden Lookout, a trhouse for night exploring, the boys keep a faithful\nocturnal vigil in order to observe the habits of night animals. During the day they embark on a treasure hunt that leads to a pair of ante telescopes hidden away for Jimmy by his grandfather. In addition to conqueering his fear of the dark, Randy learns a great deal about fireflies, oppossums, worms, hipmunks and bats. A quietly pleasant summer story set around the routine treasure hunt provides as well the unusual habits of common country ""critters"".
