In case you don't know, Tony Beaver was another of those big, tall, strapping, wonder-working American legendary heroes. He hailed from the Eel River country of West Virginia, and the stories about him, here presented, have a vernacular flavour to them that contains overtones of true feeling for place, people and time- mid 1800's. Like his legendary cousin Paul Bunyan, Tony could stride over mountains, twirl bobcats around his head- or almost anything you want. And for his particular region he produced peanut butter, grew huge melons, developed the logging industry until one day he just jumped up, landed on a cloud and has been floating around ever since. William D. Hayes' cartoons play big against small, effectively, for a friendly collection of tall tales.
