MEN AND COAL

The author was a one-time public relations man for the CIO when Lewis was top man, so quite obviously his approach is a sympathetic one. Nonetheless he has been amazingly objective in his criticism of Lewis' instability, his opportunism, but he shows as well the great contribution he has made to the cause of labor. The struggle of the miners to obtain livelihood, safety, security is told in human fashion. Anyone interested in a subject that is vital today will find absorbing interest in this historical survey and human portrait of unions, the air leaders, big business and the man behind them both.
