Straight from corn -- these letters from Lilly Belle to her hard-to-hold soldier, Horner, which depend on their lack of grammar and their misspelling and old jokes for humor. Lilly Belle is not one to do solo waiting for guy's return, is always catching up with some new gent, and then is burned up when Horner doesn't act as though he were hers alone. She writes of restaurants in which she has eaten, of a horse show, an art show, the Kentucky Derby, occurrences in a bank, a department store, at the movies, in a plane, at the launching of a ship. There are her attempts at war work, on a farm, in a defense plant, and finally her triumph at a U.S.O Club. There is a trip to New York. A vain striving for the contagious humor of Dere Mable...Doesn't prove much of anything.
