Poetic images of the universe belong to all ages, but it is difficult to recognize this at the juvenile level (indicated by the publisher). These images of the sun, the stars and the sky have been gathered from many sources and illustrated in soft line and color. The origins of these brief poems are varied as the world map -- India, the Solomon Islands, Lapland, Malaya, etc. But because they are taken out of their philosophical context they convey little of regional meaning to the reader. It will be the rare child who finds them satisfying. Here are adult concepts forced into picture book format.
