FREDERIC CHOPIN

These musical biographies of Opal Wheeler's continue to find an audience, and continue to appeal to the merchandise conscious market, without improving the literary values. While she has something to say, she just doesn't know how to say it well...The life of the famous Polish musician is told with emphasis on his daily life, with attention called to the courtly elegance and princely palaces that survived in this so-called ""enslaved nation""; of feudal poverty little is said, of charm there is much. Satin-clad small boys entertain princes; the noble tyrant is softened and made benign by the exquisite talent of a young genius.
