DONKEY-DONKEY

Sunny, scrubbed barnyard Duvoisiniana, reissued from 1933, about a donkey who's dissatisfied with his ears: up, they look ridiculously long next to horse; down, like dog Hector, they convulse his friends; sideways, like Fuzzy-fuzzy lamb, they're a hazard; straight forward, like pig Rosa, they can't be seen through. . . and Donkey-donkey, jostling Farmer Jones from a ladder, lands in the infirmary. Still unhappy about his up-standing ears, he is twitted by sparrow Daniel (""you aren't a dog,"" etc., etc.), finally reconciled by the admiration of a little girl. Harmless mulishness, affectionately drawn.
