Murray Kirk, legates of Frank Conmy's small detective agency, has also- unknowingly, inherited his embittered judgments which narrow his investigation of a policeman, Arnold Lundeen, whom his client- a lawyer- has decided to defend. As Kirk falls in love with Ruth Vincent, Lundeen's girl, his preconceived belief in Lundeen's guilt is sharpened by his personal desire to brand the man if only through his association with a racket mob; Ruth's insistence- on Arnold's innocence- abides; and it is Kirk's proof which sustains it and changes his own field of vision.... Expectedly an original talent here- a more thoughtful theme- and a hardbitten literacy.
