by Thomas P. Lewis ‧ RELEASE DATE: April 26, 1978
Based on true-life stories"" of clipper-ship voyages of the 1850s, this is the choppy, lifeless account of one family's trip from New York to San Francisco. Father, the captain, gets sick and his wife takes over the steering; a man falls overboard and is rescued; there are storms and dolphin sightings and stops for supplies. But (whatever the purpose of Lewis' shift from past to present tense after the first three pages) there is no immediacy or texture to compensate for the absence of a plot.
