THE HOUSE OF THE SEVEN FLIES

The moral -- and dangerous -- situations that beset Edward Furse, an Englishman on his uppers and not averse to smuggling, when the chance to retrieve a fortune in gems comes his way, are the core of a story laid in post-war Holland. For the police are trailing the jewels and he has two other ruthless competitors, but when his search brings trouble to a nice Dutch farming couple, he sticks with his conscience -- and his girl -- and moves over to the right side. Fully atmospheric and neat in construction.
