FINDERS KEEPERS

By the creators of last year's The Two Reds, another amusing picture book, drenched in reds and yellow, about the adventures of two very doggy dogs and their bone. Nap and Winkle found a bone, but there was some disagreement about ownership. They asked the farmer, a goat, a barber, and finally a big dog to tell them whose bone it was, but when the big dog decided to end the question by taking the bone for himself, the two friends joined forces. The use of broad color areas in the full-page illustrations is, we think, exciting, although again, perhaps too extreme for some tastes. But Will and Nicolas certainly know dogs -- and children.
