PONY FOR KEEPS

The plot here is a little far-fetched -- but from a child's point of view it will probably seem right as rain. Katty Lou -- a small state ward, had been buffeted from one foster home to another before her arrival at Mrs. Kirby's. That otherwise fair-minded lady had a justifiable prejudice against horses because of one of her own relative's penchant for gambling at races. The child disobeys Mrs. Kirby and secretly visits the neighboring March horse farm. Before Mrs. Kirby finds out, Katty Lou has learned to ride with the help of Homer March. And when Mrs. Kirby discovers the deception, Katty Lou fortuitously arranges a marriage between her sympathetic mentor, Miss O'Connor and attractive Romer March -- with the presumption that she will be adopted by them. The homeless waif and her surreptitious devotion to Tipsy, a new born Shetland foal, will appeal to those children who like a sad story with a happy ending.
