by William O. Steele ‧ RELEASE DATE: Oct. 9, 1963
Then a twelve-year-old boy sets out through the wilderness towards Kentucky to find his father, he joins up with two ""woodsies""-- men who know the wild country. After they are killed by Indians, Kel goes on alone-- only to get lost in the cane-rake. He finally finds his way out, and at last reaches his father. The story is narrated in such a tone and mood that the whole plot does not hang together and the details do not seem realistic. The Indians arrive and depart too suddenly while peers from behind a bush, etc. The author has failed to capture the danger for tension of Kel's situation.
