SEEN ANY GOOD MOVIES LATELY?

The former Herald Tribune critic, who served for three and a half years in that capacity, delivers a running commentary on this medium and manages some nonsense while making sense about the industry. From the depraved existence of a man who goes to the movies in the morning- every morning, this singles out the cliche situations of some of the basic art forms- the epic, the western, the horror movie and the spectacular; sideswipes some of the peripheral phenomena- the female form with the facts about figures (Gina and Marilyn) - personal appearances and premieres; and takes a trip to the interior of Hollywood, from the studios to the fringe areas, its pet cemeteries and stately homes, etc. along with some person to person glimpses of the film flora and fauna. A closing chapter comments more seriously on the decline of this medium, on the regrettable pressure on the critics. All in all, an entertaining enough look at this entertainment business.
