THE SECRET OF FIERY GORGE

Eleven and a half year old Marjorie Barton deeply resents being banished from the world of tile and chromium when she is forced to spend the summer with her biologist father in a North Carolina mountain shack. But she, her brother, and her cousin soon become involved in a mystery which at one moment seems to suggest the presence of Martians, the next the likelihood of vast supplies of uranium. What the children finally uncover is of more scientific than financial value, but in her pursuit of the mystery, Marjorie becomes more than reconciled to her summer surroundings. For children who enjoyed The Secret of Crossbone Hill and The Secret of Indian Mound, here is another happy merging of adventure and nature study.
