THE DAY WE SAW THE SUN COME UP

A walk in the pre-dawn of a summer morning is a strange and delightful thing for two children, especially exciting when from the east in slow but majestic splendor the sun begins to rise. Throughout the morning and afternoon they watch their shadows until their attention focuses on the dull beauty of sunset. Bedtime is story time and as mother tells the tale of how we get darkness and light, the children come to know more definitely the experiences of their wondrous day. Science and poetic prose combine to awaken the inquisitive child to just such a day.
