It's not yet light outside, and despite her mild fear of the dark, nothing will keep Rosie from meeting Grampa to go fishing. This early-morning rendezvous is a special creative time for them both. When Rosie is not fishing herself, she makes ``beautiful pictures of Grampa fishing in the pond.'' He in turn occupies himself by producing poems. The ultimate goal of their trip is not to catch fish: Rosie finally catches one, only to throw the tiny specimen back in. When they return home, their fish bucket is empty, but their mood is full. Together they have managed to create a rhyming poem and enjoy a special moment. Howard's old-fashioned autumn-colored sketches enhance Hest's (Ruby's Storm, p. 396, etc.) story of the love between a grandparent and grandchild. Sweet. (Fiction/Picture book. 3+)
