Falcone’s steamy romance novel features family disloyalty and an arranged marriage.
Kira Jones is not really the spying type, but Charles Montague has hired her to be his son’s personal assistant in order to keep an eye on him. She knew the handsome Luc Beauford would be a lot to handle, but she didn’t expect to fall for him, which complicates her job considerably. When a paparazzo catches them in a totally innocent although deceptively compromising position, the family’s PR firm gives Kira and Luc their only option: “Luc and Kira, you must marry each other.” Kira needs the money and security this marriage would provide her, and Luc needs to make it look like he’s going along with his father’s wishes, but they each have their own agenda. Luc has been planning to take down his father’s business as revenge for how Charles treated his mother, and he knows Kira has been sent to spy on him. Still, his developing feelings for Kira can’t be stopped. But can the reluctant couple truly make things work when everyone’s secrets come to light? In this romance novel, themes of disloyalty and deception abound, but Falcone keeps it relatively light. Luc’s and Kira’s flirting, as well as their bickering, does a lot to entertain and quickly establish their reluctant mutual attraction. Kira’s own complicated relationship with her family causes her to be overly suspicious of Luc’s motives in their fake marriage, and her assumptions when it comes to any of his misdeeds make her a terrible spy, but the combination results in a satisfying story with a layered lead.
A fun marriage-of-convenience tale with plenty of miscommunication, revenge plots, and instant attraction.
