THEY MET AT PHILIPPI

St. Paul's Epistle to the Philippians has been chosen by the Reverend Carroll E. Simcox, assistant rector of St. Thomas Episcopal Church, New York, as the most representative and least difficult of Paul's writings and therefore the best introduction to the layman who wishes to know more about the great Apostle. The author deals with the character, background and accomplishments of St. Paul and textual critical problems in two introductory chapters, and then goes on to a consideration of the meaning of St. Paul's words to the Church of his day, passage by passage, followed by a devotional commentary which suggests its significance to modern Christians. The writing is clear, the scholarship sound, and the translation of the letter by Dr. Simcox himself gives the familiar words a fresh touch here and there. Protestant Bible students and Bible classes should find this study helpful.
