LEON AND ALBERTINE

A charming love story that makes gentle points about not losing one's true self in the pursuit of romance. When Leon, a pig, falls hopelessly in love with Albertine, a hen, all contentment vanishes. Instead of wallowing carefree in the mud, he devotes all his attention toward getting her to notice him. The rooster tells him to sing, the rabbit advises dance, the turkey suggests he spruce up his wardrobebut Albertine remains oblivious to him. Only when Leon returns to his true self, splashing joyously in the mud with a buddy, does Albertine notice him, and, witnessing his enthusiasm, joins in. Davenier's large, loosely rendered line and watercolor illustrations are expressive and packed with action.
