YELLOW SQUARE

Carter again challenges readers to make their way through a series of three-dimensional homages to modern art, this time chasing the yellow square that appears in each (600 Black Spots, 2007, etc.). The minimalist text is simply the stepping-stone for the real event, dramatic pop-ups that swing, swirl and swoop with each opening. Finding the yellow square isn’t always easy and requires a subtlety and flexibility of thought on the part of the reader—the same qualities needed for the informed appreciation of such giants as Mondrian, Christo and Calder, hints of whose work all appear here.
