Chunk the Fourth of Eddings' best-selling mega-epic (most recently Demon Lord of Karanda, 1988). In case you've just popped out of a black hole and know nothing of Eddings or his various epics, be advised that, thus far, Garion and his cohorts (the good guys) are in hot pursuit of Zandramas, the evil sorceress who has kidnapped Garion's infant son to use in an unspeakable ritual; said ritual will give Zandramas, who has assumed the Dark Destiny, the power of the evil god Torak (slain by Garion in a previous epic), victory forever over all the good guys. Eventually, then, there will be a Good vs. Evil showdown in the Place Which Is No More—but not here: you'll have to stay tuned for Book Five to learn how it all comes out. If Eddings deserves his fans—no question but what he works hard, so evidently he does—then his fans certainly deserve him.
