"This book can help you get ready to print your letters," promises the jacket flap, and it's true that you do see the letters in the process of formation. A sky-writing ant traces out an A; a ladybug arranges blueberries in a B formation; a jauntily dressed crow gradually eats a C-shaped path through a field of corn kernels; and at a construction site a dog truckdriver scoops out dirt to form a D-shaped trench. All of this is ingenious fun but, busy as it is, probably not the best way to learn to make letters. Still, overburdened and underresolved as many of the conceits turn out, they should find an appreciative audience. . . somewhere.
